Studio Fees and Policies
Please have a look through this material prior to your first lesson, just so that there are no surprises...
Lessons can be booked for an hour, for forty-five, or thirty minutes, on the following sliding rate schedule:
· One hour, $65.00
· Forty-five minutes, $50.00
· Thirty minutes, $40.00
Lessons are paid on a monthly basis and are due on the student's first lesson of the month.
One-off lessons, say to prepare for a specific audition, may be booked, but must be paid for at the beginning of the lesson.
If you are paying by cash, please bring the exact amount.
Cancellation policy: there are no refunds for cancelled lessons, though I will do my best to re-schedule a lesson missed for a valid reason. If you need to cancel, twenty-four hour notice must be given in order to receive a make-up lesson. A make-up will be scheduled in a time frame that suits both of us. If I must cancel the lesson for any reason, it will be made up at the earliest convenience for the student.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS (..or, who knew you had to do stuff!!)
You should be studying music that you love, and so there are a variety of repertoires to choose from. You can choose to study the classical song repertoire, opera and oratorio, musical theatre, jazz. The style choice is not limited to one area, but you need to focus. You can do this purely for fun, or as preparation for RCM exams, for entrance to university, for competitions, or all of those together. Having a goal keeps us focussed, but the choice is yours. But practising is not an option—you need to do some of that. As a guideline I would suggest that preparatory and pre-professional singers need to practice 30 minutes per day, most days. Students should arrive with a good attitude and a willingness to learn. Understand that your progress is dependent upon your practice and that your weekly lessons are only one small element of your vocal work. Students are taught in their lessons how to practice and teach themselves their music. It is a student's responsibility to arrive at their lesson well-prepared. You will be expected to prepare for studio recitals and, when appropriate, local competitions.
Singing is a gift we give ourselves. I have been singing all my life, and doing so professionally for almost 40 years. I still sing every day. Join me in gifting.
